Nonverbal behavior is a complex signal system of the body to communicate our mental states, thoughts and feelings.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">Examples of Body Language<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-35311 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.humintell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/business-2089532_640.png\" alt=\" body language\" width=\"400\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.humintell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/business-2089532_640.png 640w, https:\/\/www.humintell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/business-2089532_640-600x382.png 600w, https:\/\/www.humintell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/business-2089532_640-300x191.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>Body language is one of the most complex signal systems of the body because it includes different channels like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Facial expressions<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Tone of voice<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Your hands<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Gestures<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Body posture<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The way you walk<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>How much space we take when we talk with each other<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Whether or not we touch each other<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each of those channels are important in communication and can communicate different messages.<\/p>\n<p>They communicate specific or generic emotions. They communicate cognitive processes or specific cognitions; some kind of physiological states and some other things.<\/p>\n<p>When you put all those channels together with all those signals it’s really easy to see why nonverbal behavior or body language is one of the most, or <strong>the<\/strong> most, complex signal system in the body. That’s why we focus on facial expressions of emotion.<\/p>\n<p>That doesn’t mean that everything else is not important because we also focus on the other things, like gesture and voices and everything else. But facial expressions of emotion are the most important channel that we have.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>What’s unique about Humintell?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>One thing that’s unique about our work and our approach to body language is that we focus on what we call <em>validated indicators<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>These are behaviors that have been validated by research and science over the last thirty to fifty years and that have been vetted in the field by the thousands of people that we have been fortunate enough to train and use our system in their daily lives.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>Benefits of Reading and Understanding Body Language<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Fortunately, research and practical experience can tell us which behavior to pay attention to and which to ignore, which are more important than others, and the kinds of messages we can get.<\/p>\n<p>Learning to read\u00a0<strong>facial expressions of emotion<\/strong>\u00a0remains one of the most important channels of nonverbal behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few of the\u00a0<em>many benefits<\/em>\u00a0to learning how to read facial expressions:<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h4><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/522713\/e7481f7e263885be447977d567b85250\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"body language\" width=\"267\" height=\"158\" data-icontact-resized-width=\"270\" data-icontact-width-flexible=\"480\" data-cke-saved-src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/522713\/e7481f7e263885be447977d567b85250\/image\/jpeg\" \/>Strong Predictor of Workplace Performance<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The ability to read emotions in others and in oneself has proven through\u00a0research to be the strongest driver of leadership and personal excellence.<\/p>\n<p>A recent study even suggests people who are in tune with their colleagues\u2019\u00a0emotions are more likely to bring home a bigger paycheck than their\u00a0emotionally-stunted colleagues!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/522713\/0a93ba34002cba82857c2710559713ac\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"262\" height=\"175\" data-icontact-resized-width=\"268\" data-icontact-width-flexible=\"500\" data-cke-saved-src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/522713\/0a93ba34002cba82857c2710559713ac\/image\/jpeg\" \/>Increased Ability to Detect Deception<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Research has demonstrated that when motivated people lie, and there are\u00a0stakes if they are caught, clues to deception do emerge, and appear as\u00a0leakage across multiple channels.<\/p>\n<p>The number one channel where this leakage occurs? You got it, facial expressions of emotion.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, while there has been a general consensus that microexpressions (facial expressions that last less than \u00bd second: they occur when people are consciously or unconsciously trying to conceal or repress what they are feeling) play a significant role in deception detection for decades, in reality there had never been a research study published in a peer-reviewed, scientific journal that documented that claim.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Until now.<\/p>\n<p>New and exciting evidence comes from Humintell\u2019s own Drs. David Matsumoto and Hyisung Hwang in a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fpsyg.2018.02545\/full\"><span class=\"s1\">recently published paper<\/span><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<i>Frontiers in Psychology<\/i>. In their study, they sought to determine whether microexpressions could reliably indicate deception in a mock crime experiment. Ultimately, they found that microexpressions served as a helpful guide both in detecting deceit and also in evaluating future misconduct.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/522713\/8fb64c6df3ddc567cb38964953397a23\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"192\" data-icontact-resized-width=\"242\" data-icontact-width-flexible=\"263\" data-cke-saved-src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/522713\/8fb64c6df3ddc567cb38964953397a23\/image\/jpeg\" \/><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Alleviates Facial Affect Recognition Deficits in Children with Autism<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Multiple research studies have concluded that be using a computerized\u00a0emotion recognition training program (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.humintell.com\/mix%E2%84%A2-original-online-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">like MiX<\/a><\/strong>), children with autism\u00a0could improve their facial expression recognition ability.<\/p>\n<p>More information\u00a0on these research studies conducted can be found\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.humintell.com\/2012\/04\/efficacy-of-a-facial-affect-recognition-training-tool-for-children-with-autism-spectrum-disorders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.canisius.edu\/newsevents\/unique-emotion-recognition-treatment-leads-to-significant-improvement-in-children-with-high-functioning-autism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/522713\/a3d10fe4821f46890f2614b8c2dc43b9\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"143\" data-icontact-resized-width=\"257\" data-icontact-width-flexible=\"740\" data-cke-saved-src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/522713\/a3d10fe4821f46890f2614b8c2dc43b9\/image\/jpeg\" \/><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Reduce Subsequent Crime in Juvenile\u00a0Offenders\u00a0with Antisocial Behavior<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Researchers in the UK found that boys who improved their ability to\u00a0recognize fear, anger and sadness in others\u2019 faces were significantly less\u00a0violent and severe that those who did not receive training.<\/p>\n<p>The study\u00a0involved 50 boys who had been convicted of a crime.
