Course Description
In this 1-hour APA approved continuing education course, participants learn the history of research on behavioral indicators of deception and common myths about detecting deception. They also learn about research findings of contemporary deception studies.
Learning Objectives
(1) Describe Darwin’s Inhibition Hypothesis.
(2) Recite the two different types of lies- lies of omission and lies of commission.
(3) Define a multi-modal approach to nonverbal behavior that may be especially useful when differentiating truth-tellers and liars.

Dr. David Matsumoto is a Professor of Psychology at San Francisco State University and world-renowned expert in the field of emotion, culture, and nonverbal behavior. He has published over 400 books, book chapters, and journal articles on these subjects.
