Video-The Seven Basic Emotions

Can you guess these 7 basic emotions? Should be fairly easy if you’ve taken Humintell’s emotion recognition training

  1. Would be Nice if you would consider The MAC user A’s well for any video streaming material

  2. I’m not sure I could say why (I think it’s the set of the teeth and the lower lip), but the “happy” face shown above as a still is conspicuously fake.

  3. I think the actress here did not quite understand the instructions. Her facial movements would shift from one emotion to another making it difficult to say what emotion it really was. Almost as if she was confused as to how to make the facial expression.

  4. Microx…good point. This video really illustrates the DIFFICULTY of making a spontaneous facial expression of emotion. Most of these emotions come on and off our face in seconds and we don’t know what muscles are moving and when. This is because emotions and facial expressions of emotion (if genuine) are spontaneous. The expressions themselves can use some work, but the concept is there

  5. Her surprise seemed to have some happiness blended in with it. Her fear wasn’t very intense, if it were genuine fear rather than posed fear, I’d expect to see more stretching out to the sides in her mouth. Her contempt didn’t seem to have the arrogance that I often see when I see real contempt. I don’t think she’s an arrogant person by nature, she probably doesn’t show contempt very often in her daily life. The happiness was the best and most convincing of the bunch.

Neat video, and a good, if slightly exaggerated, example of the non-uniformity of a faked expression of emotion. By slightly exaggerated, I mean that out in the real world when you see faked expressions of emotion, they don’t come across quite as “messy” as most of these here– most likely because the person showing them isn’t trying to make and hold them continuously as an illustration, and generally the person doesn’t know the more difficult, “reliable” indicators so you don’t see them trying to do those.
