National Geographic featured some interesting and enlightening perspectives on cultural differences with a clip from the movie “God Grew Tired of Us“. The movie depicts the so-called “Lost Boys” of the Sudan-Sudanese refugees who embark on a journey to America after years of wandering Sub-Saharan Africa in search of safety.
The video clip below taken from the film illustrates how cultural differences affect not only Americans interacting with people from other cultures, but also people from other cultures interacting with Americans. “I’ve never used electricity. So, I imagine it is really very hard for me to do that.”
The clip shows refugees gaining valuable insights on American ‘norms’ and have interesting opinions on things most Americans take for granted. “That is Santa Claus. And how does it connected with, with the birth of Jesus Christ? Everything is different.“
